The Provost’s Strategic Advancement Advisory Council (PDF)

October 1, 2008

The Provost's Strategic Advancement Advisory Council was created specifically to provide recommendations to the Provost on how to improve the University's effectiveness in securing large grants and contracts in science and engineering fields.  While the council focused primarily on the special infrastructure needed for very large research projects, its recommendations also touch on more wide-ranging issues, such as fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, as a basis for success in "big science."  The Council made clear that "big science" is only part of the balanced portfolio of small and large projects that a great faculty undertake, and that support must be available for the full range of research modes.
